 | | Preschool students and teachers in Ras Beirut enjoy the shelter and presence of a very old carob tree. |
Several years ago, I.C. students undertook a science project that led to a very interesting possibility. The goal of the project was to place tags with their scientific names on campus trees in Ras Beirut. An expert from the American University of Beirut assisted students in their work. In addition to identifying trees, the expert dated the carob tree shown here at four hundred years old and said he believed it could be the oldest tree in all of Beirut. This precious tree grows beside the northeast corner of the pre-school building where it shades some of our precious students.
