Children learn by doing. During our planner, How We Organize Ourselves, the RB grades 2/CE1 students discussed jobs in a neighborhood, the interdependence of these jobs, what makes a person a good neighbor, what defines a healthy neighborhood, as well as how important it is for us to work along side one another in hopes to better our neighborhoods. A field trip to Sidani Street was designed to give the students a chance to meet and greet the people in that neighborhood and to learn about what the people believed would make their neighborhood a better place to live in, what types of problems faced the community, and to discover what actions they were taking to make their neighborhood a better place. The students constructed a questionnaire with their Arabic teachers to take along with them, and interviewed various people on Sidani Street. Their conclusion? Hand in hand, together we can.
