Exams are only part of the pressure students feel during their last year before graduation. The seriousness of university course work leading to a profession or career is at hand. Consideration must be given to a career direction. Life decisions such as these require thought, but what to think about? Informed decisions are good decisions; it is therefore essential for students to have some knowledge of the academic requirements, tasks and opportunities involved in a job in order to accept or reject it as a possible future. Mrs. Nohad Doumit, assistant professor of nursing at AUB, recently visited some IC students to conduct an information and question and answer session. The School of Nursing at AUB, the first to be established in the Middle East, is part of the Faculty of Medicine. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing earned by graduates of the program uses theory and research as the basis for practice. The degree is designed to prepare students with qualifications for a career in different health care settings in Lebanon and other countries. The opportunities for work with a nursing degree are widely diverse with competitive salaries. According to Mrs. Doumit, there are presently 10,000 doctors in Lebanon, but only 3,000 nurses. Graduates may continue their education pursuing MA and PhD degrees in nursing. © 2003 International College |
