AS USUAL, RAIN WAS AT THE RENDEZ-VOUS!!!!!!

Next to the Preschool building, in the presence of M. Jean Marion, Conseiller adjoint de coopération et d'action culturelle, the IC Administration, faculty, parents and students, and around a huge 3m50x3m50 piece of Mosaic portraying the Snakes and Ladders game, the inauguration of the 16 th Annual Art Festival took place.

This year, art teachers chose Interactive Art as their All-College theme. Though all activities and projects related to the usual set curriculum yet their approach was to create games or interactive activities out of them. The starting point of reference was either an artist or a technique to be taught at a particular level. Games had been created by the students themselves in the higher classes and by teachers in the lower levels ones; they included Memory Games with artists' works reproduced by students, 'Find the Differences' between the cartoon character and his shadow, Dominoes of Henri Matisse's patterns and shapes, a bowling game with paper mâché cats, a Fishing Game, the X/0 game with paintings from two different artists, and finally a Mosaic Snakes and Ladders game that has been executed by the 4ème/3 rd Middle School classes at Ras Beirut, guided by a professional artist in the field of Mosaics Mrs. Dana Adada. Rules in French and English were posted next to each game.

Another piece of interest was a 2mx2m reproduction of a Mona Lisa. It is made of 16 sections and each section has been painted according to a certain artist. Eight sections will be sent to the St Francis School in West Virginia, and IC will receive 8 sections of theirs. What will be displayed in our college will be a combination of artworks from both schools, as a way of bridging distances between cultures.

Samia Boulad , Head of Art, thanked the Administration and her committed team namely Carine Arayssi, Nadia Osseyran, Maya Tabbara, Ranwa Jeha, Maroulla Barakat, Nour Hawili, Mirey Shebaya, Samira Morcos, Joumana Bou Khaled, and May Farra. The Art festival received a lot of visitors, including teachers who came as far away as the Bekaa area.

All went well except that….. as usual, rain was at the rendez-vous. The next day the unfinished mosaic piece had to be removed to prevent damage. However, thanks to some of the workers in the Physical Plant and to students from the Community Service, panels and artworks were saved.

At the ceremony, prizes and certificates were presented to the winners of last year's Fabriano Art contest.
