Dear IC Alumni, Parents, and Friends: We take great pleasure in announcing that Nimr Ibrahim has been named the new Vice President for Development in the New York Office. Many of you already may know Nimr. From 1966-76 Nimr taught social studies at IC, work he enjoyed immensely. During those years he also met his wife, Marti, an American who taught at IC for three years. They have two lovely daughters who live and work in New York. After a brief period of development work in Rochester, New York, Nimr served American University of Beirut from 1981-2003 as the Director of Development and Alumni Affairs in the New York office. For AUB he raised significant sums of capital, deferred, and annual monies and successfully attracted support from alumni and friends, as well from corporations and foundations. He also established and strengthened regional alumni chapters, coordinating efforts with volunteers who raised money and planned special events. Nimr will oversee a program that parallels the program Moufid Beydoun is developing in Lebanon as the Vice President for Alumni & Development in Beirut. Together Nimr and Moufid will put in place a program of more regular communication, stronger and broader annual giving support, a major gifts program to support the purchase of the campus in Beirut and necessary construction projects, and a program to secure endowment for the College. We want to take just a moment to bring you up-to-date on the situation here on campus. We currently have 3322 students at IC with 2509 in Ras Beirut and 813 at the Air Aar campus. About 600 of our students are able to attend the school only because of the financial aid that is available to them through the gifts of our alumni and parents. Eighteen of our secondary students are on full scholarship through the IC Scholars Program. We have over 313 teachers who are leading our students in the school’s curricular tracks; Internati8onal Baccalaureate Program, College Preparatory Program, Lebanese Baccalaureate and French Baccalaureate Programs. Of course, the students receive instruction in French, English and Arabic. The academic and extra-curricular programs at IC continue to be the best in all of Lebanon. We have plans in the near future to build an elementary school on the Ras Beirut campus and to upgrade current facilities at both Ras Beirut and Air Aar. Even as Lebanon struggles with the current political situation, IC is paving the way for a Lebanon’s successful future through our current students who will be the leaders of the country in the future. Nimr won our hearts and minds when he told us: "International College has a place deep in my heart, and I am truly excited about serving this wonderful institution again. My deep personal and professional interest in IC reflects my career commitment to education and my sharp awareness of the important role that institutions such as IC play in educating young men and women to realize their potential and secure a more promising future for themselves and their societies." When you have the opportunity, please welcome Nimr to IC. Sincerely, John Johnson, President William C. Turner, Chairman © International College |
