Two women apply for a job. One is highly qualified with a business degree from Harvard University. The other with no qualifications or resume, has instead a provocative appearance and photos of herself in a Power Point presentation. The interviewer hires the incompetent. Students of Ras Beirut 4thD wrote the script and action for this and other skits to demonstrate gender discrimination and other unjust conditions. The Learning Through Action unit began with the class reading of To Kill a Mockingbird to illustrate what it means to be faced with difficult choices in personal, political and professional spheres. Students then worked in groups to create sketches within the question: How does the theme of social inequity, racism, and discrimination help me discuss and analyze the dark side of human nature? All of the material in the portrayals was written and presented by students with some based on actual events, such as the Sadam Hussein and O.J. Simpson court trials, and others on fictional situations. The final phase was whole class participation in a circle discussion with advisor Mrs. Nabila Hamade.
