Who we are was the under-lying PYP organizing theme for part of the fall term. One planning unit worked on a central idea framed as children’s rights and duties and how although all children have the same needs, not all children have their needs met. Ain Aar grade 3 and 9éme classes collaborated on the subject through activities in the classroom, Arabic, music, and art toward the goal of producing an assembly for parents and friends to share what they had learned. The assembly was designed to be a celebration and was titled Making a Difference: Children’s Rights and Duties.Students read about children’s rights with their classroom teachers, read and recited poetry on the subject in Arabic, learned songs about the topic to sing and play on percussion instruments and displayed their art work on screens and walls as a background for the performances.
