IC girls’ and boys’ varsity football teams traveled to Amman Baccalaureate School earlier this month for a tournament. In spite of the tragic events of November 9 in Amman, the day of their arrival in Jordan, both teams turned in outstanding performances in what is only their second consecutive year of international competition. The boys held back all their opponents reaching the finals on Saturday against Amman Islamic School who won the 2-0 game. The team still felt themselves to be the winners they are and made a dashing appearance dressed in their suits and ties when they arrived at Beirut Airport singing the IC Alma Mater for on-lookers. In two years of international play the boys have placed 1st and 2nd demonstrating consistency of play and quality coaching. Our IC girls’ faced ACS Beirut in their final game, defeating them 1-0. The game was a heart-pounding show of courage. IC was up 1-0 going into the second half. Neither side was able to score although there were numerous opportunities for both. With only minutes left in the game, ACS was awarded a penalty kick. Our goalie blocked the 2 shots at the net and the girls came home with the 1st place trophy. We congratulate our varsity football coaches, Mrs. Karen Tonnos and Mr. Rabih Idriss for preparing their teams to succeed, and the students on their exceptional play.
