In the current curriculum theme of Who We Are, Ain Aar Middle School Arabic teachers challenged students with some interesting biography and autobiography projects. In one instance, students had to imagine themselves as a 1.000 LL and write a biography. Where had its life taken it? How had people passed them one to another, what exchanges, pockets, purses and wallets had they traveled through? In another, each one created a mask on a heavy paper-plate. Then the class brainstormed questions to ask the masks; name, where were you born, family, what would you do with $1million, what makes you angry or happy, would you change anything about yourself? The last question was: What is your favorite proverb? Students answered the questions as if they were the mask and then, using grammatical connectors, turned their answers into an autobiography. In still another exercise, students created “career maps” for question and answer discussion in class and portrayed those careers for classmates.
