Our Plenary Session is among the familiar traditions that weave the fabric of IC life. Dr. Charles opened with remarks to remind everyone that the essence of a school is the sum of the relationship that exists between teachers and their students, that teachers change lives and what a wonderful profession with an awesome responsibility. A newer tradition is the Edmond Tohme Distinguished Educator Award. Congratulations to this year’s recipient Mr. Abdel Latif Mneimneh. Mr. Mneimneh teaches physics and serves as Physics Chairperson in the Secondary School. Mrs. Mourani spoke about the components of an international education as described by George Walker, Director General of the International Baccalaureate Organization: to create and disseminate accurate information, teach students the art of negotiation through listening and compromise and understanding other nations’ priorities. Mrs. Mourani also announced last year’s exam results. All IC students passed the Lebanese Brevet with 70% achieving honors. Both English and French sections of the Lebanese Bacc. were successful with only one student needing a retake. All students enrolled in the International Bacc. sat for the diploma with the highest scores since the program was introduced here. All French Bacc. students succeeded with 87% attaining honors scores.
