 | | Club members participating in the debate gain hands on experience for possible attendance at the annual HMCE conference in Paris. |
Harvard Model Congress in Europe is a simulation of the United States government and international organizations. Students participating in HMCE learn the value and complexity of diplomacy and international relations. The HMCE Club at IC is a debate course designed to prepare students planning to travel to the international HMCE conferences. These HMCE conferences are attended by several hundred high school delegates who come from all over the world to assume roles as world leaders and politicians. They research assigned topics in advance in order to draft legislation and treaties with supporting arguments, debate, deal with mock crises and a range of other activities.
Congratulations to the IC HMCE on their first debate session! Members prepared discussion for their topic Terrorism: Origins and Repercussions. Eight students presented their views on the topic and then engaged in an attack and rebuttal format. Bon channce to all those hoping to travel to Paris for the annual conference in March 2002 and kudos to HMCE President, Ahmad Farhat and Vice President Khaled Sabeh for a well organized and successful session.
