Class members make their own decorations and then enjoy attaching them to the calendar.

Ras Beirut 11ème A snatched a few moments from their busy work schedule last week to make a holiday calendar for marking the remaining days of Ramadan and the advent of Christmas. The calendar is in the shape of a cedar tree. Students, helped by two visiting mothers, cut holiday decorations from paper. They used glitter shapes, crayons and other special materials to make the decorations beautiful and put them on the calendar. There is a chain of stars draped across it with the number of each day hidden on the back. There are twenty-five students in the class and twenty-five days in December until Christmas. The name of each child has been placed in a hat. In the morning Ms Mersch draws the name of a student from the hat. Then the class turns over the star for the day and places the date side showing. There are wrapped gifts in a box, also numbered from one to twenty-five. The child whose name is pulled from the hat in the morning then finds the gift with the corresponding name and opens it. Everyone in the class will receive a gift before the winter vacation begins on December 14th.
