How is our environment changing? How do those changes affect us? Middle School Environment Club members are thinking about these questions and others that may come up as they begin a new project. Working through the international school-based science and education program GLOBE, students will collect scientifically valid measurements of daily temperatures, humidity, cloud cover and monthly samplings of beach water. Using the GLOBE protocols with a focus on hydrology, the group will report their data through the internet on the GLOBE website where they can create graphs to analyze their data. The objective is to increase student awareness of their environment from a scientific viewpoint without advocacy relative to issues. GLOBE, an acronym for Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment, is a cooperative effort of schools supported by a US interagency program including NASA and the EPA in partnership with universities, school systems and non-governmental organizations. There are more than 100 countries involved providing an opportunity for students to interact and collaborate with scientists and other students.

Members of the MS Environment Club have placed an instrument shipped to them from NASA and GLOBE, for reading daily temperature and humidity levels.
