IC’s all College PYP Coordinator Ghada Maalouf, has just completed a series of information sessions for Preschool and Elementary parents in conjunction with the directors of those schools. In her talks, Mrs. Maalouf pointed to the parallels between the mission statements of IC and the International Baccalaureate Organization, parent of the PYP. Both statements stress fostering and educating the whole person. Some specific characteristics both encourage are self-reliance, self-discipline, critical thinking, respect and compassion. The Directors’ portion of the sessions introduced the new reporting system the two schools are now using. The system has been developed to compliment the curriculum. There will be two oral reports and two written reports each year. The oral reports follow a specific format with three parts; samples of the child’s work, evaluation applying a scope and sequence of developmental skills that are the objectives of classroom teaching and lastly, a checklist of observed skills. Parents will meet with teachers for the first oral reports by appointment from December 10-17 at Ain Aar and December 15-17 in Ras Beirut.
